Keep Loving What Moves You!
Food is more than just sustenance, it's a way of life. It's the glue that brings families together, the catalyst for unforgettable memories with friends, and the ultimate expression of love. From the tantalizing aromas wafting from your favorite restaurant to the comforting smells of home-cooked meals, food is everywhere.
As self-proclaimed foodies, Daniel and Francis have passion for indulging in delicious dishes. But our love for food took a dangerous turn when Daniel found himself tipping the scales at over 400 pounds. Francis also became overweight, and both were not living up to their best selves. They often felt tired, and the extra weight would make some ordinary tasks very difficult. It wasn't until (as bad luck would have it) that we both fell ill with a severe case of food poisoning that we realized the true impact of our eating habits.
After a year of grueling medical procedures and hospitalizations, we both emerged changed people. While we were grateful to have recovered, our digestive systems had been permanently altered. We were both diagnosed allergic to dairy, and with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) meaning we could no longer enjoy the dairy-filled delights that had once been a staple in our diets. Our lives were forever changed, but we refused to let these new dietary restrictions hold us back.
We dove headfirst into researching and asking questions about every food we consumed to ensure it was dairy-free. And we're often wondering why so many foods need to contain dairy(?). For example, when most people think about Fish and Chips, they don't think about milk or dairy, but would they be surprised to know that most fried fish contain milk in their batter? Strange, but so true. And what's crazier is that restaurants don't even legally have to tell you this. The ownness is on you to ask and seek out the answers.
By asking questions and being more conscientious about our food choices we noticed a positive difference in our health. Needing to eliminate dairy gave use tremendous encouraging effects which leave us feeling and looking healthier. With more energy, implementing regular exercise became normal. To date (currently), we have lost a combined 200 pounds! That’s like a whole person! We have goals of losing more weight while continuing to live our best lives.
